Electric Vehicle Test Track Resumes OperationAn electric vehicle test track that has been unused for years recently changed ownership and will soon be operational once again. Congress gave the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) $500,000 to fund the track thirty years ago, but after a period of nonuse, TVA has sold the one-mile track for $1 to the Advanced Transportation Technology Institute (ATTI). Founded in 1992, ATTI is a private, nonprofit organization whose mission is to advance clean transportation technologies and to promote a healthy environment and energy independence through research, education, and technology transfer. It has partnered with the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga to test electric cars, bikes, and tractor trailers on the newly-acquired track. |
