NAFTC Instructor Rich Cregar, University of Northwestern Ohio (UNO) Instructor Scott Martin, and UNO Admission Representative Andy Henry traveled to Lewisburg, West Virginia, last week to bring the news of alternative fuels and advanced technologies to students at the Greenbrier East High School. (UNO is an NAFTC member.)

During a day-long event planned by Greenbrier East High School officials, including automotive instructor Bob Baker, Cregar conducted the “NAFTC Alternative Fuels 101.” These classes introduced the students to the political, economic, physical, and environmental issues surrounding energy use in our nation and the world, then described the alternative fuels and technologies that can help solve our energy crisis.

The “NAFTC Alternative Fuels 101” was presented to three “standing-room only” classroom sessions.

Meanwhile, Scott Martin allowed students to “ride and drive” a Toyota Prius from the UNO alternative fuels program. Students were also able to see the UNO “Biodiesel Truck,” a turbo diesel truck that has been modified to produce more than 500HP.

UNO Admissions Representative Andy Henry Counseled two Greenbrier East students about the prospects for a future in automotive technology.

The West Virginia National Guard was on hand to showcase its NASCAR racecar and guard equipment, including a humvee.

The WV National Guard and University of Northwestern Ohio hosted a career fair in the Greenbrier East HS Automotive Shop. The National Guard featured its NASCAR race car.

During the course of the day, more than one hundred students attended the classes and visited with Scott Martin and his UNO team. A great deal of enthusiasm was shown by the students for their exposure to the alternative technologies that will help determine their future.
