Over 24 million reached through media outlets in 2004!

Planning for the 2006 National AFV Day Odyssey has begun! Al Ebron, NAFTC Executive Director, and Judy Moore, NAFTC Communication's Director are Co-coordinators of the event, tentatively set for early October 2006.

This nationwide biennial one day event was established in 2002 as a way of educating policy makers, students, fleet managers, and the general public, about alternative fuels and advanced technology vehicles. The 2002 event was a huge success with 34 sites and over 17,000 attendees. In 2004 the event drew almost 25,000 people to 54 different sites across the country, and in Canada, and reached over 24 million individuals through media outlets!

As the implications of the damage caused by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita continue to be realized by politicians, the energy industry, and the American Public, it appears that there may be some benefit; a "silver lining" in the storm clouds that brought so much death, destruction and misery to our Gulf Coast. That silver lining may be that these same politicians, energy industrialists and -yes-the American Public-may finally be ready to acknowledge that our very way of life has been dependent on a fragile house of cards known as oil. That house of cards did not stand up well to two fierce hurricanes. Further media scrutiny has brought forth news that many people have anticipated for some time, news that the era of cheap oil has ended.

Our premier issue of e-News (July 2005) carried an article about high petroleum prices which was called "A Perfect Storm." When published, none of us realized the future irony of that title. This month, e-News columnist and NAFTC Instructor, Rich Cregar, follows up on the effects of Katrina & Rita. Read "A Perfect Storm Continues" in this month's "Let's Clear the Air".
