CNG Cylinder Safety Inspection and Certification Course Conducted by University of Northwestern Ohio In early March, NAFTC National Instructor Scott Martin conducted a CNG Cylinder Safety Inspection and Certification course at the University of Northwestern Ohio in Lima, Ohio. Scott taught at UNOH for several years before signing on with NAFTC in the fall 2006.
During the two-day training course, fourteen participants, including two instructors, were introduced to the four different types of CNG cylinders and instructed on the proper procedures to inspect them. The laws and regulations governing CNG cylinders were discussed extensively including proper cylinder mounting techniques and venting procedures.
Course participants learned to perform cylinder inspections on previously used cylinders and were also taught to use such tools as natural gas leak detectors and micrometers. For those who qualified, the Clean Vehicle Education Foundation (CVEF) provided full scholarships for both the CNG Cylinder Safety Inspection and Certification course and the CSA International test fee. Participants are required to pass the certification test to receive the scholarship. For more information on the CNG Cylinder Safety Inspection and Certification course, please see the "Let's Clear the Air" article in this month's issue of eNews.
