Wake Tech Presents Hybrid Technology Course

Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh, North Carolina, an NAFTC National Training Center, recently presented a ten-hour hybrid technology course as part of Wake Tech's Continuing Education program. The course spanned three evenings in late February and was attended by both NC State and Wake Tech students. The course included a classroom presentation, hands-on activities, and under-car inspections and test drives of several hybrid vehicles including a new 2007 Saturn Vue Greenline with BAS Hybrid drive, a 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid, and a 2007 Mercury Mariner Hybrid.

The extensive presentation included an overview of global energy and environmental issues. Discussions were also held on subjects including the history of hybrid technologies, a review of vehicle physics, and a detailed investigation of all current production hybrid technologies. Course participants were also given the opportunity to learn about the latest plug-in hybrid developments and lithium ion battery technology advancements.

Wake Tech recently presented an Alternative Fuel Overview and an intensive three-day Biodiesel Technology and Production Course at NC State University's Renewable Energy Conference at the McKimmon Conference Center at NC State University.

In early April, Wake Tech will present a two-day, twelve-hour Biodiesel Technology and Production Course as part of its Continuing Education program. The course will include class participation in the production of thirty gallons of biodiesel made from waste vegetable oil.
