E85 Stations Exceed 1,200 Locations!

The number of E85 refueling stations now exceeds 1,200 locations across the nation. During the past year, more than 450 new stations have been established including the recent grand opening of New York's first public E85 fueling station located in Albany. New York, along with the rest of the country, is helping to prove ethanol as a viable, less-expensive alternative to conventional gasoline.

"Growth and interest in E85 fuel and infrastructure is continuing at a rapid pace," said Greg Krissek, chairman of the National Ethanol Vehicle Coalition (NEVC) and director of government affairs for ICM, Inc. "We are thrilled to celebrate this milestone and look forward to helping to grow the nation's E85 infrastructure even more in the coming months."

Hundreds of new E85 fueling stations opened across the nation in the past year including locations opening for the first time in Alabama and Arkansas. The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) recently announced a major program to encourage retailers to place ethanol at their stations. The New York State Biofuel Initiative: Driving Energy Independence for the Empire State encourages biofuel station placement by providing matching funds for retailers. Similar programs in different states have been successful in working toward energy independence for the states and the nation.

"New York continues to lead by example to reduce our dependence on foreign oil and address environmental issues. E85 is part of that solution, and we have wonderful industry partners who have helped us get the program started here in New York," said Ruth Horton, NYSERDA program manager.
