First Oil-Free Nation may be Sweden
Sweden has set a goal to be completely oil-free by 2020 without building any more nuclear plants. The Nordic nation has roughly 5 million drivers on its roads and over 1,000 operational ethanol pumps, compared to the United States' 121 million drivers and just over 1,200 E85 pumps located mostly in the Midwest.

"Our dependency on oil should be broken by 2020," said Mona Sahlin, minister of sustainable development, in an interview with The Guardian newspaper. "There shall always be better alternatives to oil, which means no house should need oil for heating, and no driver should need to turn solely to gasoline."
